Suicide

Dr. Michael Dadson cautions:

If you are beginning to have suicidal thoughts or ideation, Dr. Mike Dadson strongly recommends that a person seeks help from their doctor, or call a suicide hot line and find a Registered Clinical Counsellor who is trauma informed counsellor.

It is critical if you are having feelings of suicide to reach out for help from your doctor, a mental health resource (see Support Links below), a therapist or counsellor.

Suicide

Recognizing When Urgent Support Is Needed

Thoughts about suicide, talking about wanting to die, a plan or intention to act, or access to a method require prompt attention. Hopelessness, withdrawal, increasing substance use and a previous suicide attempt are also relevant concerns.

Risk cannot be determined by adding up a checklist, and all warning signs do not need to be present before seeking help. A qualified professional considers the person’s current circumstances, history, available support and immediate safety. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.

Read the Government of Canada’s guidance on when and how to help.
